What are ExtraBucks?
extrabucks are cvs rewards that work like store credit toward a future purchase.
How do you earn them?
extrabucks can be earned by purchasing specific advertised products, through 2% back on most purchases, and through rewards at the pharmacy.
extrabucks are issued after your purchase and can be redeemed on most future purchases before they expire.
how do advertised extrabucks promotions work?
cvs regularly offers extrabucks rewards for buying qualifying products. an offer may require you to buy a certain number of items or spend a certain amount.
for example:
buy 2, get $5 extrabucks
or
spend $20, get $5 extrabucks
the amount required for a spend-based extrabucks promotion is calculated before coupons are applied. you can still earn the full extrabucks reward even if coupons and other rewards substantially reduce what you actually pay.
most extrabucks promotions don't have to be completed in one transaction. qualifying purchases can track across multiple transactions, and your progress toward the offer may appear on your receipt and in your extracare account. extrabucks promotions are currently limited to 1 offer per account.
if you place a cvs.com order during an extrabucks promotion, but don't pick it up until after the promotion has ended, extrabucks will still be earned.
How does the 2% reward work?
2% is calculated on the qualifying amount paid after coupons, discounts and extrabucks rewards are applied, and before tax.
for details, see the guide to cvs 2% back in extrabucks rewards.
how do you access your earned extrabucks?
to access your rewards through cvs.com, sign in and go to "Coupons & Rewards." send them to your card and you'll be able to apply them to your next in-store or cvs.com purchase.
to access your rewards through the cvs app, tap the account icon in the upper left, then under "purchases and savings," choose "deals and rewards."
or if your account is set to receive paper receipts, just use your paper rewards coupon(s).
how long are extrabucks valid?
extrabucks expire 30 days after they are issued.
when earned through a cvs.com order, extrabucks may initially show an expiration date of 7 days. once you print or send them to your card, the expiration date extends to 30 days.
what about extrabucks issued by customer service?
extrabucks issued by cvs customer service may initially have an expiration date 2 years away. once you send them to your card, the expiration date changes to 30 days from the date they were sent.
what about extrabucks refunded for a returned or canceled order?
extrabucks refunded after a return or canceled order expire 14 days after they are reissued.
what is the 98% rule?
you don't have to spend the full advertised amount on most in-store "spend $x, get extrabucks" offers. couponers commonly call this the "98% rule."
for example, if a deal requires you to spend $10, the actual amount needed to generate the extrabucks is $9.80 ($10 x .98). on a deal requiring you to spend $30, you would actually need $29.40 ($30 x .98). this is very helpful when most prices end in .99!
exception:
the 98% rule does not apply to cvs.com
for spend-based promotions, online orders will not earn extrabucks unless the full required amount is reached.
what about threshold coupons?
the 98% rule no longer applies to threshold coupons on new registers. this is different from earning extrabucks on a spend-based promotion. for threshold coupons (for example, $5 off $30), stores using the new register system require you to spend the full amount. however, the 98% rule still applies to threshold coupons at self-checkout.
